He had quite a career before My Three Sons.

I recently did a piece on the TV show, My Three Sons. Fred MacMurray is perhaps most famous for his portrayal of Steve Douglas on that show, but there is plenty of other cinematic meat on MacMurray’s resume. He even did some westerns.

I’ve read a little bit about Fred, but don’t know a whole lot about him going into this. I did get the impression that he might be what could charitably be called, “financially conservative.” Okay, cheap. We’ll see. Now on to some facts about Fred MacMurray.

1: MacMurray starred in a number of Disney movies from the late 50s into the early 70s including ‘The Absent-Minded Professor.”

In “The Absent-Minded Professor,” MacMurray played Ned Brainard, inventor of Flubber. You might remember Ned had a flying car, via Flubber, sort of a precursor to drones.

2: While MacMurray didn’t serve in World War II, he did sell war bonds and served as an air-raid warden in his Brentwood neighborhood.

I was curious as to what an air-raid warden did. It seems like he did stuff to prevent what happened in the movie, 1941.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
