Facts About Doris Day
She is probably best known for her work with Rock Hudson.
I recently did a piece about Rock Hudson. Rock and Doris are linked together because of starring together in the “Pillow Talk” movies. And I really don’t remember much about those. However, beyond that Doris stood by her friend when he became ill.
Day was also a singer of note and displayed those talents when playing Calamity Jane. I remember being disappointed as a kid when I realized Calamity Jane wasn’t a straight up western.
I also vaguely remember her in a TV sitcom. Plus, Wham made a reference to her in their musical masterpiece, Wake Me Up before you Go-Go. With that scanty background, here are some more facts about Doris Day.
1: She started her career as a big band singer. In 1945, she and two number one hits while with Les Brown and his Band of Renown.
One of those hits was, “Sentimental Journey.” Personally, whenever I take a sentimental journey, I tend to get lost and forget where I’m going.
2: From 1968–73 she starred in her own TV sitcom, “The Doris Day Show.”
I’m guessing the network was going for name recognition.
