15 Facts About Dick Allen
He really does belong in the Hall of Fame.
Frank Thomas was the best member of the White Sox during my lifetime. He may be the best player to have played for the team in franchise history. However, I believe that Dick Allen is the most exciting player to have put on a Sox uniform.
His three seasons with the Sox cemented his place in franchise history. He spearheaded a turnaround for the team. Dick’s talent was undeniable. The then White Sox manager, Chuck Tanner, managed to bring the best out of Allen. At least for a while.
Allen was recently elected to the Hall of Fame. And rightfully so. From the early 60s thru the early 70s he was one of the most dominant hitters in MLB. Here are some facts about Dick.
1: Dick and his brothers Hank and Ron were named to the Pennsylvania All State basketball team.
Despite their prowess at hoops, the Allen brothers pursued careers in baseball. They felt there was more money in baseball and wanted to buy their mother a house. Dick received a $70,000 bonus from the Phillies so I’m guessing he chipped in the most.
