The Star Trek franchise was successful for a number of reasons. Original storylines, interesting characters, scantily clad women of various colors, all come into play. But the cast beyond William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were also part of a successful formula. DeForest Kelley, aka Dr. McCoy, who was also known as, “Bones” was part of that excellent cast.

In addition to his role in Star Trek, I remember DeForest popping up in various westerns. One of those westerns was the underrated film, “Warlock.” After doing some more reading regarding DeForest, here are some things you might not have known about DeForest Kelley.

1: Kelley was offered the role of Spock in the Star Trek franchise, but turned it down, ultimately playing McCoy.

Looking back on it, that decision now seems illogical.

2: He was a doctor, not an author!

He was the only member of the original Star Trek cast not to have written or published an autobiography. And his medical notes weree confidential. I expect the medical notes on Capt. Kirk were quite interesting.
