Facts About Dan Blocker
He was a fan favorite on Bonanza.
Some time ago I compiled a list of my favorite TV westerns. Bonanza was high on that list. On of the biggest reasons for that was the affable, huge middle son of Ben Cartwright, Eric “Hoss” Cartwright. Hoss was perhaps the most likeable of the Cartwrights and provided the series with some heart.
But in addition to Bonanza, Blocker’s life contained a number of other interesting elements. The much-loved actor passed away all too soon at the age of 43. So, here are some things you might not have known about Dan Blocker.
1: Blocker was discovered in a phone booth while wearing cowboy clothes and a cowboy hat.
And most interestingly, he had just kicked Superman out of that phonebooth. What’s that, being told that last thing didn’t happen.
2: Dan went to Sul-Ross State College on a football scholarship.
It stands to reason that a big guy named Blocker would play football.
3: Blocker was born on December 10th, 1928, and weighed 14 pounds.
