A while back I did a piece on Bob Hope, and not surprisingly, the person and the public persona didn’t necessarily match up. The same can be said for his film buddy, Bing Crosby. Bing generally played an easy-going guy. However, as they say in NFL telecasts, “upon further review.” Well, upon further review, it seems that Bing the person didn’t necessarily measure up to the guys he played on the silver screen.

When I was a kid, I loved the “Road” movies with Hope, Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Beyond that I didn’t watch a lot of Crosby’s movies. Obviously, Crosby was also a crooner of note. I threw any the word “crooner” for the seniors amongst us. For you young people reading this, both of you, crooner means singer. After some research, here are some things you didn’t know about Bing Crosby.

1: Crosby won an Acadamy Award for best actor in “Going My Way.

In the movie, Crosby played a priest who eventually is transferred. Actually, the movie could have been called, “Going Away.”

2: He also starred in the sequel of “Going My Way,” called “The Bells of St. Mary’s,” playing the same character. He was nominated for another Acadamy Award
