It would be a shame if Anthony Hopkins’ career may be most noted for his portrayal of Hannibal Lector. Hannibal’s name recognition got a huge boost from the 2024 Donald Trump campaign. You might have heard that he liked to have a friend for dinner. But enough of that.

Some of us may remember Hopkins as the aging Zorro, in The Mask of Zorro. In looking at Hopkins credits, I see a ton of movies I’ve heard of but haven’t watched. I expect that says a lot about my taste in movies. Regardless, it’s on to some facts about Sir Anthony Hopkins.

1: Hopkins wasn’t a great learner in school. He said of his early days, “I was a poor learner, which left me open to ridicule and gave me an inferiority complex. I grew up absolutely convinced I was stupid.”

It seems like Hopkins didn’t learn a lot in school, and what he did learn was wrong.

2: While performing national service from 1958–60, Hopkins served in British Army’s Royal Artillery regiment was he was known as “Gunner Hopkins.”

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
