Andy Griffith and Andy Taylor were definitely two different people.

Andy Griffith is obviously most associated with his character, Andy Taylor, the sheriff of Mayberry. But beyond that, he played some other pretty memorable characters. And while he mostly played good guys, he also played some memorably heavies.

One of my favorite Griffith roles was his depiction of bad guy, Colonel Ticonderoga, in “Rustlers’ Rhapsody.” Of course, I’m probably the only one that remembers him in that role. Beyond that, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Andy Griffith.

1: Andy was married three times. His first wife was Barbara Bray Edwards. They were married in 1949 and divorced in 1972.

As a side thought, Barbara was a singer. A singer named Bray, is somewhat ironic.

2: After graduation from the University of North Carolina, became a drama and music teacher at the Goldsboro High School in North Carolina.

Sometime after that he made a recording called, “What It Was, Was Football.” While the commentary on football might not have been on the level of John Madden, it was better than Dennis Miller.
