When most people think of Andre the Giant they probably think of pro wrestling. I think of The Princess Bride. He was great in that. I’m not a pro wrestling fan, but I am somewhat aware of his impact on the professional wrestling scene.

Some of Andre’s most famous matches featured him going up against Hulk Hogan. In one of the matches, Hogan body slammed Andre, but even Hogan admitted that would not have happened if Andre had not been on board with the idea. Now, on to some more facts about Andre the Giant.

1: Andre is a member of various wrestling halls of fame. The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame said of Andre that he was “one of the most recognizable figures in the world both as a professional wrestler and as a pop culture icon.”

At that size, I’d say that was accurate.

2: In 1970 he made his Japanese wrestling debut for the International Wrestling Enterprise. He was billed as “Monster Roussimoff.” Roussimoff is Andre’s last name.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
