They often hide an ugly truth.

Cartoon by Lambert-King

One of the casualties we’ve seen in today’s society is truth. For example, we’ve heard the expression, “alternative facts.” Actually, alternative facts are generally lies. When people testify in court or other venues, the question is asked, “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?” Often times people will consider that as three options.

Some might tell the truth, but not necessarily the whole truth. And they might tell the truth, but not necessarily nothing but the truth, which distorts the truth.

Of course, even though lying is rampant, we don’t say people lie. That would be rude. Here are some examples of spin we hear in today’s society,

1: He’s a poor historian.

This is often used in medical circles when a person is unable to relates events accurately. In fairness, when used in connection with medical issues sometimes individuals are unable to related factual information. And sometimes they just don’t want to.

2: We’ve had an incident involving your data.

In other words, hackers gained access to your information. Then you are given a work assignment to see if the breach in their security is costing you money.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
