Do you hate an endless parade of cliches? Do you find post-game interviews with athletes to be generally insufferable? If so, maybe examing these cliches will be more enjoyable than hearing some actor, athlete or politician spew them. And here we go.

1: You can’t go home again.

This cliche was blown to bits during the pandemic. Countless young people were forced to go back home and stay with mom and dad. Pretty much the only way you can’t go home again is if there is a restraining order on you.

2: Low-hanging fruit.

Anybody else think that sounds like a really bad medical condition? I expect to see some TV spots advertising a product to combat low-hanging fruit.

Of course, the term is often used in sales to refer to a person who is easy to close. As a consumer, would you like to be considered low-hanging fruit? I didn’t think so.

3: Empower.

I used to love this one when I was in the workforce. Generally speaking, when my employers said they were going to empower me, it meant I was on my own.

“Yea Larry, that’s a real problem, but we are going to empower you to deal with the irate customer who’s an avid member of the NRA…
