Delving into Popeye Mysteries
Some questions beg to be answered.
Admittedly, when you watch cartoons, there are certain premises you just have to accept. As time goes on and you get older, some things become more apparent to you and logic becomes harder to put aside. We’ll consider some examples.

Let’s get a couple of things out of the way. First of all, what did Popeye and Bluto see in Olive Oyl? Not to be sexist, but Olive isn’t what you would call a great beauty.
The fact that she has a hard time seeing the obvious character deficiencies of Bluto is also troubling. Also, the fact that Popeye has to reset to violence to win Olive’s affection is disconcerting. In addition, the idea of Olive being impressed by the violence is also troubling.
Possible reasons for the attractions.
As for what Popeye and Bluto saw in Olive, it’s possible that those guys had been out to sea a long time. As I’ve written before, being out to sea for a long time made men see “mermaids.” It seems that if you are out to sea long enough, it’s amazing what becomes attractive.
