David Ross is What You Get When You Shop for a Manager at DWTS
Why are the Cubs still using a Kmart level manager?
I’ve been a Cubs fan for almost 60 years. My patience was finally rewarded with a Cubs World Series win in 2016. After that, the team meandered towards mediocrity for the next few years, despite having a lot of talent. Finally, the fan base got disgusted and team ownership actually tried to acquire some talent last winter. That’s all well and good, but how about getting a manager who can actually construct a lineup and manager a game?
The Cubs now sit a 1–3. They should be at least 2–2, and possibly even 3–1. I won’t get into the way Ross left an obviously laboring Drew Smyly in too long. Or why he had Patrick Wisdom bunt with two on and nobody out with a 3–1 count. No, I won’t get into his abysmal in game strategy. I just wonder about the roster.
Who made the final decisions on the roster?
Nick Madridgal? Miles Mastrobuoni? Matt Mervis at AAA? Why are Madrigal and Mastrobouni with the big club now? I have to belive even David Bote is better than the M&Ms on the roster now. And at least Chris Morel has power. And I hate to think the Matt Mervis decision is based on service time. The Cubs wouldn’t do that would they?
