Bear Hunting in Oklahoma
The situation raises questions.
As I’ve stated before, I’m not a hunter, but my brothers-in-law are. And I’m good with that. It sometimes results in me getting some venison. One of my brothers-in-law is known for his work on antique guns. My other brother-in-law lives in rural Oklahoma and doesn’t have to go far to hunt deer. Or bear, if he were so inclined. And he may be.
My brothers-in-law, like me, are over 65. My brother-in-law who lives in rural Oklahoma has a lifetime hunting license. This year, that comes with a special perk. A bear tag. That entitles the bearer to bag a bear. But that opportunity comes with certain caveats.
Which population are they thinning out?
It seems the black bear population is becoming an issue in Oklahoma, so hunters can thin the herd so to speak, under certain conditions.
As I understand it, hunters can hunt black bear if they use guns that use black powder, or they can hunt them using a cross bow. I have several thoughts on this:
1: Is the black powder thing an effort to match the powder with the color of the bear. Is it a fashion thing?
2: So, you have old guys hunting bears. Which population are we trying to thin out? Bears, or old guys?
