Bait and Switch has Gotten So Old
Some information is really hard to find.
We live in a time when information has never been more plentiful. Yet, getting the information you actually want can be more difficult than it was in years gone by. I’ll give you a case in point. I’m looking at having some yard work done this spring. I went online to try to get a lawn company to give me an estimate for the work. Easy peasy, right? Au contraire.
I couldn’t find a site that gave a phone number. There was, however, an option to have someone contact me with an estimate. Based on past experience, I was reminded of the words of that famous life coach, Dirty Harry Callahan who once asked the question, “Do you feel lucky? Well do ya, punk.” I guess that’s actually two questions. Well, my meds seemed to be working well, and I felt adventurous, so I clicked for someone to contact me with an estimate.
And regretted it.
A call from Angi’s List
Rather getting a call from a contractor, I got a call from Angi’s List asking if I wanted them to find some bids. I said no. To me, saying yes would have meant opening the Gates of Hades and being descended upon by a gaggle of telemarketers.
Sadly, this experience is not uncommon. Finding contact information to get the information you need seems to be getting…
