Terminology has changed.

I spend hours on the internet every day. I don’t pretend to be very tech-savvy, but I do appreciate what technology has enabled me to do. Today I thought I would go back about 30 years and consider how technology has changed our lives. I’ll include thoughts on tech terms.

Who out there knows what ‘The Cloud” is?

Personally, I wonder about calling something that stores information, ‘The Cloud.” How can you find something in a cloud? As highlighted in the above cartoon, when it comes to The cloud I’m in a fog.

How about computer terms?

I hear the term, “hard drive” all the time. In years gone by, I’ve made long drives with my wife, two kids, and two dogs. To me, that was a hard drive.

Spam used to be tripe meat that was edible if tried and served with eggs, or put in a sandwich. A cookie was something I would eat after having my spam and eggs. Now it’s a text file sent to a computer.

And my, how phones have changed.

In years gone by, a mobile phone was a phone that had a long cord. Now, with the advent of cell phones, you can take your phone anywhere you go. Not only that, you can…
