A Pessimist’s Look at Zig Ziglar’s Quotes
I’d be a tough sell for him.
I’ve spent a lot of my life in sales. I’ve had numerous supervisors encourage me to read motivational books or listen to motivational speeches. In all my years of sales, I did none of that. Apparently, I didn’t find my supervisors to be particularly motivating.
What I did find motivating was an opportunity to make money. Rather than refer me to a motivational book, I found a better compensation plan to be more stimulating. You know, an actual opportunity.
Oddly, when it comes to motivation, I look to that motivational guru, Mike Tyson, for truth. Mike said, “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” I’ve found the warm fuzzy of a motivational speech often dissipates in the face of adversity. Then you need something more substantial.
Still, I’ve heard a lot about Zig Ziglar, so I thought I do some research on him and his quotes. By research, I mean look at Wikipedia. After all, I’m not that motivated.
Zig seemed more defined by his quotes than anything else.
