As I’ve said before, I’m not a car. However, that doesn’t mean I have no interest in cars. I very much enjoy the modern features today’s cars have. Air conditioning and satellite radio leap to mind. Of course, there are many more exotic features available.

With that in mind, here are some facts about the past and present of cars and the automobile industry.

1: About 95% of a car’s life is spent parked.

Which is about the same percentage that some drivers spend being immobile.

2: On average, a car has about 30,000 parts.

About half of those will have to be specially ordered if your car breaks down. Wait, being told that’s not true.

3: Texting while driving increases your chances of having an accident by 23 times.

I’m not sure if that number goes up if you text with both thumbs.

4: Cars with standard transmissions are still popular in Europe and Japan.

In the US, over 95 percent of cars have automatic transmissions. In Europe and Japan over 80 percent have standard transmissions. The…
