19 Things You Didn’t Know About the Netherlands

And, no, it’s not Holland.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m constantly looking for stuff to write about. I came across some information on Yahoo News about the Netherlands I found interesting. It led me to look for even more on the country. Of course, sometimes when you get some information it leads to more questions. That was the case with what I found out about Holland, er, the Netherlands.

1: Holland and the Netherlands aren’t the same.

Actually, Holland is in the name of a couple of provinces of Netherlands. And technically, it’s The Netherlands, not Netherlands. Regardless, of what it’s called, it seems to be a nation intent on making it hard on writers. Reminds me of that of old commercial, “You can call me Ray.”

2: The Dutch are serious cheese eaters.

The average Dutchman eats 2.2 kilos of cheese per year. As a bonus I’ll tell you a kilo is 2.2 pounds. So, the Netherlands has lots of cheese heads but few Packers fans.

3: Clogs are a big deal there.

Probably because of all that cheese consumption. Maybe they need to add more fiber to their diet. Hang on, being told it’s a different type of clog. These clogs are wooden shoes, which…
