16 Facts About Birds
They do more than chirp and poop.
Most of us don’t think a lot about birds unless we’ve parked under a tree and come back to discover our car covered in bird stuff. But our feathered friends do more than keep car washes in business. I saw a few of them in my backyard yard the other day and enjoyed watching them. I thought, as a change of pace, I would find some facts about friends so here are some neat things about birds.
1: Pigeons were kind of a prelude to ESPN.
In the early days of the Olympics, pigeons were used to carry the results of Olympic events. Now, whenever I see a big pigeon, I’ll think of Chris Berman.
2: Parrots have can relatively large vocabulary.
They can lean up to 200 words. For context, some action heroes or athletes have a vocabulary half that large.
3: Bassian thrushes hunt in unusual ways.
These birds eat worms. They dislodge their prey by farting, causing the worms to reveal their location. You can see the same thing at parties. If somebody breaks wind it can cause some of the other partygoers to change locations.
