15 Things You Didn’t Know About “Gone with the Wind”

I saw ‘Gone with the Wind” for the first time about 45 years ago. It was also the last time I saw it. It failed to meet my expectations. Perhaps my expectations were unreasonable, but whatever they were GWTW didn’t meet them. Maximus of “Gladiator” fame raised the question, “Are you not entertained?” Well, after watching Gone with the Wind the answer was no.

When I was growing up, they were still showing Clark Gable movies on TV and I liked them fairly well. Maybe that’s why I was disappointed in “Gone with the Wind.” Regardless, I decided to do some research of this classic and her are some facts I came up with:

1: The most famous line from the movie, when Rhett tells Scarlett, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a d…” Was originally censored and was replaced with ‘My dear, frankly, I don’t care.’

Notice how juxtaposition of dear really weakens the impact of Rhett’s statement?

2: Barbara O’Neil, who played Scarlett’s mother was 28 at the time of filming. She was only three years young than Viven Leigh who played…
