15 Facts About Nebraska

It was quite a football power during the 70s.

I admit not being enthralled by the prospect of visiting Nebraska. One thing I do remember about Nebraska is they had some great football teams from the 70s into the 90s. They were coached by Dr. Tom Osborne. They always seem to slug it out with the Oklahoma Sooners coached by Barry Switzer for the Big 12 championship. And sometimes even for the NCAA national championship.

Beyond that I know Larry the Cable guy lives there and is a big Cornhusker fan. The Nebraska football team, not the farmhand. I’ve seen the Nebraska tourism commercial that states, “Nebraska, it’s not for everyone.” Give them points for honesty. On to facts about Nebraska.

1: Nebraska has two time zones.

The 1950s and the 1850s. Hold on, being told it’s actually Central time and Mountain time.

2: The Homestead Act of 1862 resulted in a land rush to Nebraska.

The act allowed white settlers to claim and possibly keep free land if certain conditions were met. I noticed that was true of white settlers. There wasn’t an influx of black settlers until the great Nebraska football teams of Tom Osborne.

3: The Lewis and Clark’s expedition made their way
