For some reason, I think of lighthouses.

Once again, a state where my pool of knowledge is more of a puddle. I’m thinking rugged coastline, the aforementioned lighthouses and seafood. I also believe George H. W. Bush used to get away there. I don’t know of any actors that came from Maine and Maine doesn’t have any major league sports franchises, so my usual pool of knowledge is greatly diminished.

So, as is the case with so many states, I start with very little knowledge. Therefore, after delving into some facts, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Maine.

1: Maine is called “The Pine Tree State.” It has the most forest cover of any state.

Over 80% of the land is forested or unclaimed. Some of that land does not have any formal political organization. Which may lead to it becoming a tourist mecca.

2: Maine has the highest percentage of French Americans of any state.

Does that make Maine the France of the United States?

3: Aroostook County, Maine, is known for its potatoes.

It’s known as the Idaho of the East. What’s that? I guess it’s not.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
