15 Facts About Indiana
They do like their basketball there.
For some of us, our notions about Indiana have been formed by the movie, Hoosiers. That was an excellent movie but perhaps not the best way to form an opinion about the state of Indiana. Of course, Larry Bird is also from Indiana so that basketball theme continues.
Of course, before I get away from Indiana basketball, I probably should mention basketball icon and model of decorum, Bobby Knight. How his behavior was tolerated for so long is beyond me, but for the most part it was a different time. After that dissertation on Indiana basketball, here are some things you didn’t know about Indiana.
1: Indiana means “Land of the Indians,” or “Indian Land.”
Of course, the Indians don’t own it.
2: Residents of Indiana are called, “Hoosiers.” The origins of the word are a little fuzzy, but it is generally considered originally to refer to s backwoodsman, a rough countryman, or a country bumpkin.
It reminds of the Waco Kid describing the locals and has he said to Black Bart, “You know, …” I don’t want to drop that whole load on the folks in Indiana.
