Ok, it was funny.

One of the more offbeat comedies I've enjoyed over the years is “The Golden Girls.” And I was actually a fairly young guy at the time. I guess the point is funny is funny. Another point is if you are a guy, keep that fact under wraps until you are old enough to not to care what other people think. And sadly, I’m there. I’m a Golden Boy. Also known as an old man.

In retrospect, the writing was crisp, and the show did show the value of friendship, and cheesecake. I can vouch for the importance of both of those things. So, here are some more things you might not know about “The Golden Girls.”

1: Rue McClanahan’s accent migrated south.

Rue, like me, was an Okie and used her accent early in the series, but the accent became more that of a southern bell as the series went on. If the series had continued much longer, Rue would have had a Mexican accent.

2: Rue had her own line of lingerie based on her Blanche Devereaux character.

She called it, “A Touch of Rue” and sold it on QVC. And it could make onlookers blanch.

3: The role of Dorothy Zbornak was almost played by Elaine Stritch.
