It really was a different time.

Andy Griffith was a different kind of comedy. It wasn’t heavily dependent on snappy one-liners. It was more character-driven. Not only that, the main characters were decent people. They even promoted decent qualities. How could something with a premise like that be funny? Well, somehow this show managed to make it work. The Andy Griffith Show is one of the most beloved shows in TV history.

As well as many of us know this show, there are a lot of things you didn’t know about it. So, here are some things you didn’t know about The Andy Griffith Show.

1: Ron Howard didn’t have a great arm when the show began.

Actually, it was more a matter of Ron being really young. You might remember that in the opening sequence Opie threw a rock into a lake. In reality, Opie couldn’t throw a rock that far and a production assistant made the toss.

So, was that production assistant actually a stunt double?

2: In real life, Aunt Bea and Andy didn’t get along very well.

It seems Frances Bavier also didn’t care for her character very much. While she is a tremendous help to Andy and Opie, Aunt Bea was a bit prickly. Maybe some fiber would have helped.

3: Opie’s mother was the most obscure person in TV history.
