I almost had some interaction with Joan Rivers. Back in the 90s I wrote some jokes for Joan’s consideration. I had heard she bought from outside writers and was good about responding. And I did hear back from her. In about ten years. And then I got a letter from her staff. It seems the material had fallen behind a cabinet and had been lost for years. I was invited to send more material.

By that time the moment had passed.

I did, however, recognize Joan was a very funny comedian. She joked about her appearance and her relationship with her husband, Edgar. And of course, there is so much more to Joan’s life and career. Here are a few things you didn’t know about Joan Rivers.

1: Joan’s career got a huge boost when she appeared on The Tonight Show hosted by Johnny Carson in 1965.

Later she became the first woman to host a late-night talk show. And incurred the ire of Johnny Carson.

2: Joan received a Grammy posthumously for Best Spoken Word album in 2015 for her book, “Diary of a Mad Diva.”

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
