Most of us hear debate about banking regulation and deregulation. Many of us are able to successfully block out this type of boring stuff. Still, some banking news borders on being interesting. And some of us might even benefit from knowing it. Though I doubt that reading this particular piece will benefit your bottom line. But why take a chance, who knows?

1: There were more banks in the United States in the early 1920s than at any time before or after.

So, I guess that whole depression thing was a sort of thinning of the bank herd.

2: The biggest bank in the world?

That would be the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. It employs almost 500,000 while having about $4 trillion in assets. Included in those assets are numerous US politicians. Told on, being told that can’t be proven.

3: During 2006 and 2007 banks gave NINJA loans.

So, did people with marital arts skills get preferential treatment? No, NINJA was an acronym for No Income, No Job, No Assets. Getting a mortgage was so much easier back then.

4: Deutsche Bank began to operate in London
