When I was in my early teens, I would often stay up late and watch “The Late Show.” No, not the one with David Letterman. I’m talking about the one the Chicago CBS affiliate would play around midnight. It was a movie. And on a good night that movie might be an Audie Murphy western. I wasn’t looking for high-brow entertainment.

Older folks probably remember Audie from his movies. And some of us might remember him as the most decorated soldier in US history. In addition, Audie had some personal issues in his life to deal with. Now, onto some things you didn’t know about Audie Murphy.

1: Audie received every medal available from the US army, as well as some from awards for heroism from France and Belgium.
