11 Facts About Groucho Marx
He was the best known of the brothers.
Groucho and his brothers are at least partially responsible for some classic comedic movies in the early days of Hollywood. And I don’t think I’ve seen any of them in full. I need to make a point to do that. I have, however seen some clips from those movies and I get their popularity.
I’m more familiar with Groucho from seeing him on talk shows. where his wit was easily evident. Before really delving into the piece, I took a look at some of his quotes. The volume and quality of his one-liners is amazing. I believe he has perhaps the best resume of one-liners I’ve seen. So, here are some things you might not have known about Groucho
1: Groucho indicated that there was a downside to being so witty.
He said it was really hard to actually insult somebody because they would assume he was joking.
2: Groucho was married three times. Each time it was to a woman who was much younger than him. His third wife was Eden Hartford. At the time they got married Groucho was 64 and she was 24.
One thing that probably helped Grouch was that as his age climbed, so did his bank account.
