Her Murphy Brown character came to life.
I’m most familiar with Candice Bergen’s work on the TV series, Murphy Brown.” Bergen brought the character to life to the point that then Vice-President, Dan Quayle got into a debate, with her. I also remember Candice from her work in the excellent western, Bite the Bullet.
Her father was the famous ventriloquist, Edgar Bergen. Those are the high points of what I know about Candice Bergen. With those high points covered, here are some things you didn’t know about Candice Bergen.
1: As a child she irritated when she was referred to as “Charlie McCarthy’s little sister.”
The fact that her father was calling her that made it especially tough. Wait, being told he didn’t call her that.
2: Despite being named Homecoming Queen and Miss University at the University of Pennsylvania she was asked to leave after her sophomore year.
This was after she failed courses in art and opera. I suspect being named Miss University was more important to her career in the long run.
