How much trust do you have in science? Responses to that question vary wildly. For example, some people thing that the first lunar landing is one of the greatest scientific accomplishments in history. Others think the whole thing was a hoax. Of course, some of those people also think pro wrestling is real.

And we’ve seen the controversy over vaccines. While there is some discussion over scientific advances, sometimes the truth is hard to ferret out due to the disgusting lows and lack of integrity some so called news agency have dipped to. However, some things thought to be scientifically true have proven to be otherwise. Let’s consider a few examples.

1: Piltdown Man: Piltdown man was discovered in a gravel pit outside a small U.K. village in 1912. Basically, the finding was determined to be a human skull along with ape jaws and teeth. While hailed as the “missing link” it was ultimately determined to be a fraud. However, for decades it was considered the real deal. There have been several suspects as to who perpetrated the fraud, including Charles Dawson, Charles Darwin and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Maybe Sherlock Holmes should have checked into it.

2: The Fiji mermaid: The ”mermaid” in question was presented to the New York press by Dr. J. Griffin. The mermaid was actually an ape sewn to a…
