It’s a miserable job.

A while back I stopped using a landline in my home. Why? Because pretty much all the calls I got were telemarketing calls. Mine is not an uncommon experience. While we all get annoyed at these calls, the tendency is to kill the messenger, aka the telemarketer. Often times the real issue is the policy of the companies these schmoes work for. Having been one of those schmoes, I know of what I speak.

Against that backdrop, here are some things you may or may not have known about telemarketing.

1: Telemarketing still works. 60% of Fortune 500 companies stay it’s “very effective” while 90% say it’s effective.

Interestingly of those who have received these calls, 60% say they are very annoying and 90% say they are annoying.

2: On average, it takes 80 calls to get one opportunity.

However, it takes only five calls to get a good cussing out. Wait being told that’s not right. Ok, six. Getting a cussing right now, never mind.

3: The term, “call center” is deemed outdated by some. They prefer the term, “contact center.”
