Few people associated with Hollywood have had as varied career as Ron Howard. Many of us remember him as Opie on The Andy Griffith Show and then as Richie Cunnigham in Happy Days. But, as memorable as Ron’s acting career was, he’s been at least as memorable behind the camera.

Unlike some child stars, Ron seemed to have a happy childhood. He has fond memories from the Andy Griffith Show, speaking highly of Andy Griffith and Don Knotts. In addition, Ron had a very supportive family. Now, on to some facts about Ron Howard.

1: Ron’s father, Rance Howard was originally named Rance “Beckenholdt,” but took the stage name Howard for his stage debut in 1948.

Well, that saved Ron the trouble of changing his name.

2: Beyond his work as Opie in The Andy Griffith Show, Ron was in a bunch of other shows, including The Twilight Zone and Cheyenne.

Wow, Opie in the Twilight Zone. Who knew? Also, I’m also glad to see he appeared in a western. Actually, he also was in John Wayne’s last movie, The Shootist. Fortunately, Ron didn’t have to shoot the Duke.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
