It really seems like a disgusting sport.

I like most sports. However, the idea of competitive eating is somewhat disgusting to me. Of course, the 4th of July brings with it Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest. The idea of watching guys, and gals almost literally inhale dozens of hot dogs for entertainment makes no sense at all.

But then reality TV doesn’t either.

I do have some questions about the “sport’ and matters related to the event and the aftermath, as well as the long-term repercussions. So, here are some things you didn’t know about competitive eating.

1: MLE, Major League Eating, regulates competitive eating events in the United States and Canada, including Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Without regulation, these contests would just be a bunch of gluttons trying to do each other.

2: Other competitive eating events involve eating jalapenos, hamburgers and buffalo wings.

It seems there are no competitive eating contests involving healthy foods. Wait, being told there are contests for eating a head of lettuce and also…
